Days 1-2: Fly to Beijing
Arrive at the airport by chauffeured transfer and fly overnight to Beijing. On arrival you will be accompanied by one of our experienced escorts to the hotel.
Day 3: Explore Imperial Beijing
Begin the day with your private Tai Chi lesson in the park of the Temple of Heaven. Crossing the vast Tiananmen Square, enter the magnificent Forbidden City - a monument to China's dynastic past. Your visit includes entrance to the intimate Treasure Hall. Visit a cloisonné workshop. Dinner this evening will be sumptuous Peking Duck at Quanjude restaurant followed by a Chinese acrobatic show.
Day 4: Champagne of the Great Wall
Visit the Great Wall's lesser known Huanghuacheng section, stopping at the ideal spot to enjoy a glass of champagne. Back in Beijing take a rickshaw ride through the hutongs, stopping for your calligraphy class. Enjoy a free evening at the lively Houhai Lake.
Day 5: Traditional Shaanxi Dumplings
Fly to Xian. Take a walk on the 14th century city walls before meeting with local chefs to learn the art of dumpling making. Dine on the results of your class before watching a Tang Dynasty dance performance.
Day 6: The Terracotta Warriors
The Terracotta Army is one of the world's most famous archaeological discoveries. View the enigmatic ranks of warriors in the company of an archaeologist who will put their story into context. Visit a workshop where craftsmen recreate warriors in the style of their ancient counterparts. Back in Xian wander the atmospheric alleys of the Muslim Quarter and visit the tranquil Grand Mosque. Tonight there is an option to take a city tour which includes the dazzling fountain display in front of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.
Day 7: Hanyangling Mausoleum
Explore the fascinating Hanyangling Mausoleum, burial place of Emperor Jing and Empress Wang of the Western Han Dynasty. Fly to Chengdu and take a stroll down old Jinli Street. Tonight enjoy the quintessential Sichuan dining experience at Shujiu Xiang Hot Pot before taking your VIP seats to enjoy the Bian Lian at the Sichuan Opera.
Day 8: Pandas with an expert
The Chengdu Panda Base offers the chance to see China's celebrated bears in surroundings that resemble their natural habitat. You will be joined by a panda expert who will talk about the base's work and the wonderful pandas themselves. Transfer to Chongqing and visit the historic district of Ciqikou - spend a free evening here before boarding your cruise vessel.
Day 9: Captain's welcome
The Yangtze has long played a pivotal role in the history, culture and economy of China - this voyage is the perfect way to get an insight into its importance. Take a shore excursion to the exquisite Shibaozhai pagoda. This evening the captain will host a welcome reception followed by a lavish dinner at the à la carte restaurant.
Day 10: Dramatic Yangtze Gorges
Prepare for breathtaking vistas as we sweep through the dramatic Three Gorges. Transfer to a smaller vessel to explore the scenic narrow waterways of the Shennong Stream. Back on the boat, expand your knowledge of the dam project with a presentation by the river guide.
Day 11: Three Gorges Dam Project
Created to harness the power of the Yangtze, the Three Gorges Dam is massive feat of engineering - 2.3kms long and 101 metres tall. Take in this colossal sight from the viewing platform and visit the exhibition centre. The cruise vessel must then tackle the five-step Three Gorges Dam lock. Disembark and fly to Shanghai.
Day 12: Zhujiajiao water town
Explore the atmospheric alleys and waterways of ancient Zhujiajiao, a typical Chinese water town, before returning to Shanghai. This afternoon is free with the option to take part in a cooking class.
Day 13: Stylish Shanghai
Walk in the Yu Gardens, admire the collections of the Shanghai Museum and ascend to the dizzy heights of the Shanghai Financial Centre's viewing platform. Dine on the acclaimed dumplings of Dintaifeng and toast the end of the tour with a cocktail at M on the Bund with views of the Pudong skyline.
Day 14: Fly Shanghai to UK
Take the super-fast Maglev train to the airport for your flight back to the UK, arriving home the same or following day. On arrival you will be transported home by chauffeured transfer.
